Imagine!

It’s a hot Sunday afternoon and you've just had a pleasant day cruising the Menai Straits. The boat is safely tied to her berth and you head home, already looking forward to the next weekend.  However, unknown to you, the stern gland has developed a small leak.

 

Two things could happen over the next few days...

 

Ist Scenario

 

Sunday 22:30

Bilge water level rises, triggering bilge pump.

 

Monday 12:30

After pumping bilge water all night, the battery level falls to a critical level.

 

Monday 17:00

Bilge pump fails and water level starts to rise, damaging engines.

 

Monday 19:00

Boat starts to flood rapidly and sinks half an hour later.

 

No more boating this season... Oh and by the way, the insurance does NOT cover everything...

 

2nd Scenario

 

Sunday 22:30

Bilge water level rises, triggering bilge pump.

 

Monday 12:30

After pumping bilge water all night, the battery level falls to a critical level. C-Pod alerts owner & Marine Electrical

 

Monday 13:00

Marine Electrical books visit to marina to check batteries.

 

Monday 17:00

Marine Electrical gets text alert warning of rising bilge water.  Upgrades call to urgent.

 

Monday 18:00

Access to boat is gained and emergency power supply is connected to bilge pump. Leaking stern gland discovered and expert engineering company called to fix fault.

 

The following weekend, a good time had by all.
